Hey guys I'm starting classes tomorrow and don't have any of my books. I know, why the hell wouldn't I reserve them? But I heard some profs don't use the textbooks and I didn't want to buy way expensive books from my college.

Do you think it'll be a problem if I don't have them first few days?

You should ALWAYS go to class before you ever get textbooks...unless you have some sort of scholarship that pays for your books.

You absolutely need to see the syllabus, hear what the prof has to say and then make a decision on if you need the book for that class (if all the material for the exams will come from lecture, it doesn't make sense to spend $75 on a textbook). At most schools profs must tell the bookstore months in advance what texts they anticipate using so that the bookstore can begin ordering them and such. But things change, profs do different things and students can often get stuck with books they don't need. Plus sometimes profs will tell you things like if a new edition came out recently but the old one is still good (and cheaper).

Plus if you decide you don't want to take the class it's just wasted time having to go return those books, particularly if you ordered them online.

You'll be fine tomorrow without books. You can get the ones you need after class. Just be prepared to stand in a long line with dozens of other students.
