Why not? Too few people?

yea well only 134 EA acceptances... but shouldn't we make a thread where we can introduce each other? :P

That would be cool. How about this one haha?

Cool! So are you all planning on attending Caltech next fall? I'm pretty sure I'll be there. My name's Tyler and I'm from Kerman, CA which is near Fresno. I like math and biology a lot, hence my username.

Hi! My name is Phillip and I'm from Rockville, MD.

Although I'm not 100% sure if i'll go to Caltech, I like the school a lot and am eager to learn more about it (shamefully never visited yet...). I was actually very surprised when i got in EA :]

Can we rename this thread so other ppl start joining in?

I'm Victor Li, and with a deferral from MIT I'm leaning on going to Caltech. I'm from Quincy, MA. PM me if you want contact info! I want to major in engineering... or math... maybe mechanical engineering? I don't really know right now.

does anyone know if airfare to prefrosh weekend is paid for by Caltech? or do we have to pay for it

I'm Joshua Hutchins, from Carmel High School (just north of Indianapolis, IN). Was accepted at Caltech, my first choice, which made me really happy. I plan on majoring in aero or astro engineering.
Vintor, I'm in the same boat as you- accepted at Caltech, deferred at MIT.

hey Victor and Joshua,
yea same thing for me.. :P i thought it would be vice versa haha. But we should still be very thankful!

Yeah right now I'm leaning too, but still have to see what regular admissions does for me. :]

Heya, I'm Stephanie, and I go to Mounds View High School in Minnesota. I'm definitely a math lover, but at the moment I'm leaning more towards getting an engineering degree. I was also accepted to MIT EA, and at the moment, it seems more likely that I'll end up there, but I'll be visiting Caltech during prefrosh week to see how things are, so you guys can still change my mind. ^_^

it seems like all the girls got accepted into both MIT and Caltech? haha

haha, I'm another girl accepted at both MIT and Caltech! Yay for Tech-y schools.

I haven't visited Caltech yet -- It's a long way from Amherst, NH :(

haha MIT's plan to sabotage Caltech: lower the # of girls there so that nobody ends up matriculating =P

I know! lol

most admits will have to pay their own airfare. However, in the past a sizeable number of admits have had their airfare paid for by Caltech, particularly URMs (including girls), and people who qualify for need-based aid.

This year there is going to be more emphasis on affordability issues, I think, but yes -- we try to make it possible for everyone to visit. We think it's a very important part of the process.

In response to Vintor: I had a theory about why the 2009 class has a particularly abnormal M/F ratio (>70 to <30). My theory was that after Larry Sumners made that comment about women in science, MIT got all jumpy and hyped up their affirmative action policies. Then even more girls and even less guys got accepted there, and the effects reached Pasadena.

^^^^^Hey is your username meant to be a super extended, really hairy guitar chord? If so...yikes!

Yeah, don't try to figure it out. That's not the point. :-P

I didn't try to figure it out. Anything longer than F barre chord will rip my fingers apart. I have small hands. lol
