No Cars on Campus For Freshman, What Do I Do???

I recently found out that there are no cars allowed on JMU's campus if you are a freshman. As someone who would like to apply (and is from out of state), having a car to actually get to the school is pretty much essential. What/where could I possibly keep my car while I'm on campus? I'm kind of unfamiliar with the Harrisonburg area, so if anyone knows of any solutions, please let me know!

If you are commuting, there are resources and procedures for that. If you are living on campus then, you are not permitted to have a car on campus as a freshman unless you get special exception. You can ask for a waiver of the rule. But if there is no exception, than you have to find a place to park your car on your own. This is typical of many colleges. At some schools NO undergrad gets parking privileges on campus property without a commuter pass that has to be applied for with proof that you are driving to school. Still other schools have no place at all for cars and you are on your own as to finding a place to park your car. My son goes to such a school and does not have his car there for that reason. It would cost him a lot to park his car. His school has no provisions for parking, just a list of parking garages and you have look for parking just like anyone else living in that area if you don’t want to pay for a garage.

Most colleges do not allow for Freshman to have cars on campus. Why is it essential for you to have one? You either fly to school, have parents drive you, take Amtrak, Greyhound, etc.
