No chance for duke?

Before I post my stats, I just want to say that getting into duke would be absolutely amazing for me, but I'm also very realistic. I know my chances are very slim because of below average SATs (for Duke) and not any special ECs. I just want to know if I have any chance at all, because if I have no chance, I'm not sure if I want to spend money re-taking the sats, taking SAT IIs, the application, and spending a lot of time working on the application when I could be focusing on senior year. I would be extremely happy at UNC (instate) if I got in there, so it's not really duke or nothing for me.

I would appreciate any honest opinions. It'll be a big time commitment applying to duke, so I want to know if the time will be worth it.

Your SATs are lower than mine, but your extra curriculars are definitely more numerous (and probably more time-consuming). My grades were slightly better than yours (no Bs, for example), and I got in, so you probably have a decent shot at it. It'll probably come down to your recs and essays. And your being from NC doesn't hurt either. Good luck!

What SAT score range should I be realistically aiming for? The middle 50% of the students that got admitted?

As Senator Noodles said.. the fact that you are from NC will help you out.. I'd say you should apply!

However.. I would say your chances are close to none unless you can break 2100.. then you will be in the running.. with your EC's.. I would say that you could get in at that point.

Best of luck next year!

take the ACT as well. a lot of people find it significantly easier and colleges treat it the same as the SAT

A socond to what paniwani says! ^^^ Some people do significantly better on the ACT than on the SAT--and some find it goes the other way. Give it a shot.

your chances are hangin on by a thread right now in my opinion. but yeah, try taking the ACT. that could definitely help. i was just talking to a guy today that got a 2080 on the SAT but got a 34 on the ACT. but yeah your EC's look ok and your courseload looks great. don't give up hope. good luck.
