Hi! I have been considering SUNY Binghamton lately. I would like to major in ChemE and eventually go on to get my PhD, but they don't have a ChemE major. Should I remove them from my list? Two things I can think of are: (a) to major in applied physics or engineering physics, or (b) to major in mechanical engineering with chemistry classes/minor. Any input would be greatly appreciated ^^

bump…

It seems like if your dream is to do chemE, then you should eliminate schools without it from your list. I’m sure people will come along and tell how you can do other majors and go to grad school, and I am less qualified than anyone, but it just seems to me like if you want to do a specific field, even the classes for it will be more enjoyable for you. I would consider it a deal breaker.

I agree with Poppin. The number one reason why you should discount a school is if they don’t have the major you want. It doesn’t make sense for you to go there.

Presumably there is some public school in New York that has ChemE?

Apply to Buffalo and skip Binghamton. You can also apply to Clarkson and RPI and pray for fin aid.

Hi everyone. Thanks for the replies! I’ll probably apply to Stony Brook instead then.
