No classes on Fridays or Later Classes?

I'm in the process of playing around with a few tentative freshman schedules, and I'm debating between a few line-ups

For Michigan students, in your experience or that of those around you, would you rather have no classes on Fridays or have classes that don't start until noon 3 days a week and are more spread out? Why?

Also, is 15 units too light a course load first semester? I'm debating adding a 3 unit seminar (I'm doing honors btw).

Im sure 15 credits is a descent amount. 18 may be a bit overwhelming and can take a bite out of your gpa. My ideal schedule is to have classes 10-3 everyday. not to early, and not to late.

15 is fine for first semester. My first semester I did 16, second semester I did 18. While 18 is a big load, it was helpful that I already knew a lot of the materials (Chem 125/130.) I wouldn’t recommend 18 credits of difficult classes where you don’t have prior knowledge, but if you are already familiar with some of the material, 18 credits is manageable.

Many of my schedules have had only discussion sections on Fridays, which is basically the same as no Friday classes at all.

wait… so you chose umich. CONGRATS and good choice.
15 credits is fine, i did that both sems and had no problem. Just don’t do 18.
As for no fridays/late start as a freshman it prolly won’t happen because the classes are usually filled… unless you have a very early orientation date.

I have a pretty early orientation date, the second week of june. My tentative schedule allows for it. But if not, would it be better to have as many mornings as possible off or as many afternoons as possible

That’s not even a question, take the mornings off.

Definitely have later classes if you can. After this year i have no idea how I woke up at 6 AM everyday to go to HS. I think no classes on fridays i overrated. Id rather just spread everything out, it works out. And 15 shouldnt be bad

i took 14 credits a term and it worked out great. if you can get yourself out of bed, i’d recommend taking earlier classes back to back so you can finish by noon. i finsihed by noon or 11am three days a week first semester and my semester was really chill

^^^ That seems like the way to go in my opinion.^^^

If you are fine with the earliest classes (I’m a morning person), is it realistic to be done by noon most days?

Has everything to do with whether you’re a morning person. I personally am not, which is why I’d gladly take a Fri 1 pm over a Thurs 9 am. If you’re a morning person, go for the morning classes and no Friday classes. Not having class on Friday is very nice, I had it for the first (and probably last) time last semester. I also had a 9 am on Tues, which was brutal (but the only option I could take). I honestly would rather not get up earlier than 11 am if it were up to me. 15 credits is the average by the way, it’s perfectly fine to take. There’s no need to be above average in the amount of credits you take (you only need to be above average in your grades). Freshman year I did 16 16, Sophomore 14 14, and first semester Junior year I’m scheduled for 15. There’s really no need to ever take 18 credits, unless you’re going to do two majors and a minor or three majors, and need to load up.
