No college mail?

This issue really isn't a big deal, but it came up in my mind the other day when my friends discussed all the colleges that had sent them letters. I'm a sophomore and I took my PSATs in October of 07. I got a 214, which I suppose by elite school standards is low, but I don't think that it's too low for every college in America who sends out mail. Is there any particular reason why no colleges are sending me mail? Again, I don't really think it's a big deal since I've heard the mail piles up over the years, but I'm just curious as to why. One person told me it's because I picked undecided as a major, but I don't really see how that could factor in. So yeah, thanks in advance for answers.

If you really want mail, sign up for mailing lists or something. Or just have patience.

I think maybe you need to take the PLAN in sophomore year for mail. Correct me if I'm wrong, though.

Did you by any chance check the box that says "don't send me stuff" when you were taking the PSATs?

I wouldn't worry. I didn't get college mail until my junior year.

Yeah, I didn't get any unsolicited college mail until junior year - and then it really piled up. Don't worry at all.

Junior year, now that I'm a senior I don't get that much. I sort of miss some of it. It made me feel important at first, then ****ed and now I miss it.

it depends on whether you check the box for "student select service" or something random.

you get college mail with 150's, so it's not your score that's the problem. I got a 218 soph, and got TONS of mail. no worries...in fact, my parents just said my mail this (junior) year is reaching a critical mass

You may have either forgotten to check the box on the scoresheet, or your email/address is wrong.

However, I do know that most colleges send their mail in waves. I've gotten certain brochures/emails that my friends received months earlier. It's really, really random.

Also, the score is definitely not a problem. Colleges--even the elite--will bombard everyone who scored (in a rough estimate) in the 80th percentile or higher. That's because they're in a continuous competition to increase their number of applications so that their selectivity will go up (as acceptance rate drops).

Another thought: If you have a few schools that you know you're interested in, you should sign up for their mailing lists to get more than the standard business-size sophomore college letter ("Hi, you're smart. Just so you know, we exist. Send in this enclosed envelope for more info"). And who doesn't like pretty viewbooks?

Don't worry so much. it'll come. not any sophomore i know has gotten mail except from emory. If you checked pre-med as ur prospective major, they sent u stuff.

I got a lot, actually, and that was before I started signing up for mailing lists and whatnot, and I'm a soph. You could always sign up if you want to...I know PrincetonReview has a mailing service...

You might have bubbled your address or email wrong, or you could have done everything perfectly and it was just a data-entry error.

Actually, I'm sick of college mail. When I first started getting it, it was a bit ego-inflating, but then I realized that most of the letters were requests to sign up for another mailing list or something useless. I really have never gotten anything useful out of my pile of 100+ letters, so you're not missing out on anything at all.

I think the college mailings do seem to kick-in after the PSATs, but in all honesty what it all comes down to is just advertising. Receiving college mail isn't an indication or recognition of anything in particular. My psats were good and promising, my sats turned out to be a different story altogether. I have a huge collection of college letters, postcards and viewbooks that are just waiting to be recycled. Don't worry about not getting the mail, you are probably better off (in many ways) researching schools online and requesting info on the schools that interest you most.

Don't worry. You're not missing anything. It'll come!

um......the fact that your not getting mail is a good thing. mine goes from the mail to the trash.

it'll start coming over the summer/beginning of senior year. that's when all the national merit/etc stuff will be done. if i were you i'd just wait.

yea, like others have already mentioned, it makes you feel good at first (even though it really means nothing) but then it just gets annoying.

I always felt kind of guilty just throwing them out...I mean, I'm not interested in most of the schools, but at the same time, it's such a waste (what can I say, I'm a bit of a tree-hugger :P)

well r u really gonna look at all that college mail neways? its not that great getting so much college mail
