No confirmation e-mail from FAFSA

Well, we are using a commercial service provider to help us with FAFSA, and well I only received an e-mail that says I had opened and saved an account, but they said they submitted the application.

Does anyone know if the confirmation e-mail is supposed to come right away?

Why are you using a commercial preparer? This is strongly not recommended, including by financial aid officers on this forum who report problems with FAFSAs they receive (or don’t receive) from people using sites such as FAFSA.com.

I am not sure what you should expect as far as confirmation from a commercial site as most people here strongly steer everyone away from such sites so there is little information on them.

You may want to cancel your paid submission and submit the FAFSA yourself. You will find that you have better luck in getting the FAFSA processed quickly and properly. It really isn’t all that difficult to complete on your own.

junshik - Nikkil^^^^ is a financial aid officer with several years experience

I’m aware that it is fairly easy, especially for the families that have straight forward incomes and everything simple.

Yet, for my particular situation, there is so much going on, so much buildings renting out, etc etc etc.

secondly, I don’t want to make mistakes on the FAFSA, and then end up with a huge EFC… we’ll see.

I filed the FAFSA (myself) for both my kids last year and never got an email confirmation for either one. I asked about that here on CC and at the time, while most people talked about getting confirmations, there were a few like me that never did. I checked the email addresses I submitted and they were absolutely correct. So… I don’t know, but there was no problem with either of my kids’ aid coming through. I’m not going to worry about it this year. You should be able to go online and check the status whether you get a comfirnation email or not.

junshik, then you may want to check on the FAFSA website to see if they have even received your application. It has been my experience with my students who used a pay service that veyr few of their submitted applications ever get received by the Department of Education, which can result in a loss of potential aid. You can also call the processing center to see if they have received the information.
