No contract- should I be panicking???

Hello there,

I applied for housing in March as a CAP student (very late- I know. I didn't think I would follow through the cap process at the time) and I still have not been offered a contract by the university. I would take supplemental housing at Kinsolving at a moments notice, but since I haven't even been offered a contract, I am getting very very worried.

If I am not offered a contract, I really like a single room at an apartment complex but it is kind of pricey ($1275 a month! Yikes! And this doesn't include utilities!) and there are only four rooms left according to the salesperson on the phone.

So, I'm stuck in a glitch--
1. can't tell if the person on the phone is trying to make a sale by bluffing, and I can't visit to reaffirm situation b/c i am overseas
2. I am afraid of waiting for a contract, only to not receive one and be houseless. I need to be close to the university, walking distance. That is a main concern.

My first choice is Kinsolving- and I've been told that female housing doesn't fill up as eagerly as co-ed so maybe there is some chance...? I called the housing dept. in hope of helping the situation, but they told me I should just wait for another two weeks.

So, wait? Or should I just jump on board for the apartment and pay a very high rent fee?

Wait two weeks like they told you and then start browsing the area online for apartments. I think $1275/month is out of the question and crazy expensive unless you can afford to pay that. Where the heck is the rent that expensive??

And if you’re from overseas, look at [College Houses Cooperatives: Student Owned and Student Run](http://www.collegehouses.org)! We get lots of people from overseas (France, New Zealand, Poland, Germany, China, India, etc.) and I pay like 650/mo. for my own room, all bills included, free food, internet, and a pool. I just share a bathroom with another girl (I’m a girl). And I’m five blocks away from campus. It’s cooperative living though and we work together here for students by students… so if you really want your own apartment, good luck anyway! But I would never pay…more than 850/mo. for my own apartment. No, …gosh over a thousand…too much!

And you might browse the maps of west campus for little apartment complexes because they might not all have websites and that might be were you find cheaper living. Places like J26 and the Quarters will show you nice and glossy looking pictures of how everything is shiny and pretty and they will price rooms high. And they charge loads for parking too (though I don’t suppose you will be driving a car? perhaps? lol).
