There's a class I'd like to add during add/drop tomorrow...there are 18 open seats in lecture, but the only discussion section open has only 2 seats left. What happens if I'm able to enroll in the lecture but not in a discussion section?

They’ll open up a new discussion section. Just enroll first, and discuss it with the prof. I’m sure you’ll be able to get into the class.

Alright, thanks! I’ve never been in this situation before, so I wasn’t sure.

hey i’m an entering freshman and my add/drop is on the 24th. i want to swap a class and the lecture fits in my schedule, but the only open discussion doesn’t. some of the other discussion times do but all of them are full. do they open new ones up like you said earlier?

Additional info: the prof usually only cares that you are registered for both the class and the discussion, and (s)he would tell you that you can switch between discussions. However, this doesn’t apply for some classes since the TA’s could be doing different things in different sections.

What will happen in my opinion is that you can go to the discussion that you want and stick with it even though it’s full, esp. since some people will still change their schedules. Also, if there are a lot more people enrolled in the class than they expected, they would definitely open up a new section. Talk to the prof! :)

I was actually lucky enough to get into a discussion section, so I’m all set. But thanks for the additional info! It may come in handy in the future :)
