No EC's, BUT...

I'm a sophomore in high school and I have NO school related EC, except for our Interact Club, which is just there for seniors to get in community service and leadership before they graduate. I live in a small rural Texas town and they really emphasize sports at my school. Pretty much nothing else. I'm not athletic in anyway whatsoever.

I love to write stories, though. I've written hundreds of short stories since I ws in 8th grade, all saved to my laptop. It's the one thing I really love, besides photography. Do you think I could use that on my college applications instead of more traditional ECs?

Try to get the stories published

You’ll need some kind of EC’s but you don’t have to do them through the school. Find out if there are organizations you participate in online/ in your town/ in local towns that interest you. Colleges just want to see that you don’t just sit on the couch watching TV when your homework is done and it has to be through legitimate sources. If you sent stories to the newspaper, local publications, etc then they could count, otherwise maybe see if there are any volunteer organizations oriented to writing you could participate in or things of the like.

Getting awards is important so enter some competitions! The Scholastic competition is probably one of the best you can enter. If you write novels, you could also attempt to publish. Good luck! :)
