Hey CCers,

I'm really interested in attending University of Massachusetts Amherst. However, from what I heard, they don't have an education program. I've talked to my guidance counselor and she told me that this is impossible. However I can't seem to find it on the collegeboard site. I'm really worried now :( If they don't have my major, that'll be a huge disappointment to me. I'm interested in Early Childhood Education. It'll be awesome if any of the Amherst students can tell me if you guys have it or not. Thanks a bunch :)!

There is an Early Childhood Education major, although the web site has very little information on it:

[School of Education | University of Massachusetts Amherst](http://www.umass.edu/education/licensure/edinfo/ecemajor.shtml)

As I understand it, for education in general, to become a teacher in MA, for elementary ed you typically have to major in a subject area as outlined in this document (http://www.umass.edu/education/licensure/edinfo/eio_pdfs/Elementary%20Education/elementarymajors.pdf) , and then meet the licensure requirements to become a teacher.

For middle and high school, you have to major in the subject area you want to teach in, and then meet the requirements.

So the school of education is mostly at the graduate level to get you through the licensing.

^ Thanks. So Amherst does not have a popular early childhood education program?

I have no idea how popular it is.
