I'm finishing up my IU-B application, and I can't find an essay anywhere. Am I correct in thus assuming that no essay is required for the Fall 2009 online application?

There is not a mandatory essay. There is an opportunity to do an optional personal statement.

When I spoke with admissions about a month ago, I specifically asked about whether D should do the essay or not. I was told it wouldn't be necessary for her as her scores and GPA make her eligible for the top merit scholarship. She's instate.

If I'm not seeking any merit aid, should I do it?

It depends on how good your stats are. If your GPA and test scores are good, it isn't necessary. If you think you are borderline, then it probably wouldn't hurt.

Where on the application does it give you the opportunity to write a personal statement? My daughter completed the application and mentioned no essay was required.

I couldn't find an answer to your question, but here is the link to the Admissions Office contact info:

Contact Us: Office of Admission: IU Bloomington

Just give them a call and they will tell you how to submit a personal statement. I remember them as being very helpful.

Thank you IllinoisMom!
