[Housing - What to Bring](<a href=“Residential Life | Student & Campus Life | Cornell University”>Residential Life | Student & Campus Life | Cornell University)

Is there anything I should NOT bring with me?

Yes, as a matter of safety there are a few items that you are NOT allowed to have in your room: extension cords, “spider” lamps, any lamp (particularly a halogen lamp) that requires a bulb greater than 150 watts, appliances not controlled by thermostats, candles, incense burners, microwave ovens, cinder blocks. Additionally, weapons and firearms must be registered and kept with Cornell University Police and may not be kept in residence halls.

Short answer: No. Sorry.

^I know of plenty of ppl who DID have those things. Just make sure you get rid of them/take them home during winter break when they do room inspections.

tmk39 is completely correct.

hahah thnx ;)

no extension cords? what about surge protectors…?

Surge Protectors are perfectly allowed.
About the extension cords, even though you may not get caught with them is not the issue. When it does start a fire, there will be hell for you. If it electrocutes you, then it’s not all apples and peaches. So I advise not take that chance just because others luckily didn’t start any fires or get fried in the process.
No matter how safe it is, ***** happens.

How about christmas tree lights?

well, you could use a surge protector with a long cord on it I suppose. Also, if you insist on just using an extension cord, be sure to get a “very good” one and not some rinking dink one. the trick is to not plug so many things into it that it overloads it.

“cinder blocks”

lol

cinder block were allowed just as long as you remove them at the end of your year. i.e. no dumping them in the dump/run or in the dumpster
