No Financial Aid at all

So i really want to got to NEU and my family EFC is around 15,000 according to Fafsa and Northeastern is only giving me 19,000===== 52,000-19,000= 33,000!!! thats double then EFC... how the hell do they expect me or other stients for the matter of fact to attend Northeastern is this is the kind of aid they give.... its not even 20% of what i need!!

You labelled your thread “No Financial Aid at All” then you state NU gave you $19,000. That is not “nothing”. Does the $19,000 include loans or is it all grants? Maybe the balance would need to be taken out as loans.

“its not even 20% of what i need!!” You need to work on percentages: 19000/52000 = 36.5%.

chill out bro u know what i mean…36.5 percent is stilll horrible and only 10,000 is grants and 750 work study evrything else is loans

Bummer… $10,000 is better than none, but not enough be helpful. Any chance of merit scholarship? Hopefully the seasoned CC parents/students can add hints about the best way to tactfully solicit more aid.

In recent years, I’ve been told that NU would not negotiate financial aid for admitted students unless there is a change in circumstances (for example, a parent losing a job).

exatly royalrooter thats what they told me

Write an appeal. It doesn’t work for everybody but it worked for me. BIG TIME.
I also went to talk to my FA advisor in person but that’s not necessary.

I literally recieved NO financial aid when I was admitted, but I wrote an appeal and just recieved $20,700/ year from their school. I didn’t have any change in circumstances either

An appeal worked and I didn’t have any change in circumstances either. Sometimes if you let them know that there is no possible way you can afford their school without more money they give you a little. It’s a business they need your money just as must as you need theirs.

I tried appealing last year without any success whatsoever. But congrats to those who have been able to squeeze out some extra $$-- trust me, every little bit helps.

did you guys write a letter? or fax? the appeal

Emailed it in

When did you guys send your appeal? Did you guys send it in before enrolling or before orientation? Because I already enrolled… would it be possible for me to send an appeal after enrolling?

I sent mine right after I got my award before enrolling.
But you can still send it after enrolling
