No Financial for me

Hello,

I decided to go to college. The college I chose was Nashville State Community College (NSCC), School code 007534. Now I think it was a mistake.
I applied for financial aid and I received a little bit on my FASFA. I tried to get some personal student loan from lenders, but all I contacted told me that they do not have some agreement with this collgege. So I contacted the financial aid office at NSCC and the lady told me that they do not work with any lender and answered to my question what I can do she said this is a personal problem and I have to fix it. She cannot help.
I do not have any family left. I am all by myself and depended on a little help from my college to get me through it. But it seems that these little narrow minded people, which monstly do not have any kind if college degree, don't care about the individual as long they can fill the classes. They also lost my high school transcript and I had to order it twice.
I don't know what else I can do to get a degree. Due the switching class times day and evening I am not able to get a full time job. Only a part time.

Any idea would be appreciated.

Thank you

You can get federal loans to attend this college. Are you independent or dependent according to FAFSA? That will determine how much in loans you can take out.

Like I wrote, I am independent. I have a federal loan but this is not enough to get me through the college as a full time student.

Most people have to work part-time during the school year and full time during the summer. You may need to delay enrollment til the spring so you can line up a job, work, get some money set aside, etc.

As an independent student, you can borrow $9500.

Are you being charged OOS tuition, which is $6888/semester?

If yes, then I agree with M2k, that you need to get a job, and do what it takes to establish in-state residency. This way as an instate student, you can attend for $1668/semester as a full time student

http://www.nscc.edu/content/resources/ResidencyApplication.pdf

where do you live? have you considered attending a CC , in the state where you actually are a resident?

If NSCC is too expensive for you, find a community college where you live. It may be cheaper than NSCC.

I’m a little confused. In June you were inquiring about colleges in Florida. Are you from Florida? If so…attending a community college in Florida will be affordable with your $9500 Direct Loan.

The colleges will NOT give you loans in excess of the maximum Direct Loan.

An OOS community college sounds too pricey.

Yes, that was in June. June 2010. I move to TN end of 2010.

Sorry…I obviously didn’t look at the YEAR!

Where does your mom live? Did you graduate from high school in Tennessee? If not, where DID you graduate from high school?

However, it seems as if you have not done anything to become a resident as tennessee states that your mere presence in the state is not enough to establish residency.

What are you doing to establish residency? it is just crazy to pay 4 times the in-state rate if with a little work on your part, you can establish residency

People without credit can’t get private loans. That has nothing to do with the school you choose.

“Due the switching class times day and evening I am not able to get a full time job. Only a part time.”

The simple fact is that most community college students are working full time and studying part time and paying as they go. You need to consider doing that.

What about enrolling in all online classes at the school? They post the price for out of state students who enroll exclusively in online classes as $2508 for 12 units per semester, far less expensive than paying out of state tuition. Plus, with online classes, your schedule is going to be far more flexible and you would be able to fit in a job. Since you obviously have a computer, you may want to check into at-home jobs, too.

You might also try changing your perspective about the staff at that school if you want to attend there. They cannot solve all of your problems for you - this is your life - but they will be very valuable to you if you can recognize that. I am sure they work at that college because they actually enjoy working at that college and helping students like yourself. But you have to do your part. You want to treat them like gold.

Best wishes to you. Things can work out if you work them out.
