I got into USC with no foreign language classes. My school, which offered only one period of french during my years, always scheduled it during required classes.

I've been reading about placement tests, and as an engineering major I expect to take math, physics, chemistry, etc. But are they going to make me take a foreign language test? 'Cause if they do I am completely screwed.

I don't know if you're required to take foreign language as an engineering major, but don't worry, even if you comepletely fail the placement test it just means you have to take the 3 semesters of a language or whatever duration is needed-not the end of the world.

Well, I can count to ten in spanish, so maybe i should take that one

haha go for it. dont stress. they have classes for beginners and whatnot. its only a placement test

I was more worried i wouldn't get in. USC requires two years of a foreign language in high school

Got waitlisted at stanford, and they require 4

To ten!? Well, I'm sure that you'll far surpass the requirements necessary to get out of a foreign language (just joking, of course.)

Does anyone know how hard these placement tests actually are?

The only engineering major that needs a foreign language is computer science.

sweet. i can get away with being culturaly illeterate

as long as i can get a cab i guess

Oh! Good one.^ That's where I'm at.

momofchris already said it, if you're a Comp Sci major than you will need to take the test. Any other engineering major and you should be just fine. If you are not an engineering major and never learned a foreign language, I believe they still require you to take a class, even though you can just simply sign your name and turn it in blank and leave.

mad-toast, the placement tests are imo easier than ap exams but still challenging on a high school level.
