No foreign language

Unless a parent, I would have put my moderator’s hat on and closed this thread, as “asking for a friend” posts are not allowed. Regardless, it’s assuming facts not in evidence.

While this is a valid reason not to have 4 years of Spanish in HS, it’s also assuming facts not in evidence.

I have said on many threads that there are many valid reasons for a student not to follow a college’s “suggested” HS preparation path, and have given examples of what a college would find as an acceptable reason. However, my experience on this site is when a student comes here seeking justification for not taking the suggested amount of FL classes, their explanations fall into the unacceptable reasons category. e.g. My teacher sucks / I hate Spanish / I wanna (they generally also don’t write English well  ) take all AP Sciences senior year, etc.

However, the OP never did make clear his/her own reasons and has since seem to have disappeared entirely.

You guys scared him/her off

Is two years of same language enough for most selective colleges, or do they want 3 years in same language?

Also, what if the student has 2 years Spanish + 2 years Latin? Is that OK or should s/he take another year in one of those (but at the compromise of an extra science class). Student prefers the extra Science class - so is the 2+2 good enough, even for highly selective colleges?

@sunnyschool check out this thread: http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/college-admissions/1802227-faq-foreign-language.html#latest. Can you do a 3rd year of either Spanish or Latin in summer school?

@Corinthian Thanks! Just read thru the thread. I will look at the colleges he likes to see what they require. He had too many classes this year so dropped Spanish; wants to take Latin online this summer, which I think would help him with vocabulary also. So he could end up with 2 Spanish, 2 Latin like his brother; or he could just take Latin 1 and Spanish 3 next year.
