I sent in my Harvard app on December 1st and have not been contacted for an interview. Meanwhile, a couple of kids at my school and at neighboring schools who applied days, even weeks, later than I did have been contacted for an interview. Should I be concerned?

yes that means they don’t want you…:)

I don’t think you should worry. I sent in my app on Nov 21 or 22 and I was only contacted by my interviewer about a week and a half to ago.

I am a Harvard interviewer and I just got my assigned students about a week ago. I have not contacted them yet.

Admissions is facing a shortage of interviewers, especially with over 30,000 applicants. Not surprising considering that just 5 years ago, the number was around 22,000. It’s at least a 36% jump in a very short period of time. I’m almost certain the number of volunteers did not increase proportionately during that same period.

They’re been very actively recruiting alum to volunteer in the past several weeks and I assure you you’ll likely hear very soon from your interviewer.

I had mine on the 12th. Don’t worry about it. You can probably still get in without it.

I know of people who thought their interview was the greatest 1-1:30 hours of their ENTIRE life and got rejected. I also know of people who had no contact from Harvard at all ,besides the application status website, and still got in. Don’t worry about it, they don’t choose interviewees by qualifications or interest, I’m sure its all random.

It’s actually not random. They try to assign an interviewer to every applicant if possible. Sometimes, it’s just hard to find willing alum in the same area, especially if you’re not in a major metropolitan area or if you’re overseas.

last year interviews continued right into March

I meant random as in they don’t specifically choose certain applicants based on their applications/ ECs/ SATs for an interview. So if 3 people applied from the same area, each would have the same chance of getting an interview because it is random and interviews are not given on the basis of qualifications.

I am applying from a country where I will only be contacted for an interview after Harvard review my applications.

As a result, even though I hope to have an interview, I chose the option ‘No’ for the question of ‘Have you had or have you scheduled an interview’ in the Harvard Supplement. I didn’t choose the option of ‘No-but I plan to do so’ as I was unable to provide the interview details (where, when and with whom) as requested for that option.

Can someone please tell me if I will still be contacted for an interview if Harvard does require additional information from me?

Thanks a lot.

P.s. I tried emailing Harvard on this but they only sent me the list of countries which interviewers will contact their interviewees.

I´m from Latin America, and I was never contacted so I decided to ask the office for the list of interviewers in my country and they sent it to me in less than 20 minutes (it was really fast), the only problem is that the guy that I contacted said that he was out of town that he´ll be back in more than a week, do you think that if we have the interview the day 22nd, the results will arrive on time to be considered by the committee? Or should I contact someone else from the list?? please help me!! thank you guys!!

Esdienti, wait for the guy whom you first contacted. Interviews still will be being done in mid March, and Harvard still will be considering them.

Also just in case some U.S. based applicants are wondering: internationals living outside of the U.S. have to contact Harvard about interviews. That info is on Harvard’s web page with info for international applicants. Most international applicants probably aren’t interviewed because of the shortage of alum living abroad.

U.S.-based applicants have to wait until an interviewer contacts them.

I am in Canada so should I contact the school?

Hey, I am from South Africa and have just been asked to interview now. Does this mean that I have passed the first weeding out of apps? pls someone who knows help me here…:)

I’m an international student in a small city, I click on No in the “have you plan or scheduled for an interview”, does that really have a negative impact on my application?

I haven’t had an interview yet and I live near a pretty big city. No one else at my school applied though so I have no one to cross check with.

Not being invited to an interview doesn’t have a negative effect on the application, right?

Sorry, I know I’m probably the 34903943th person who has asked that.
