No honors or scholarship?

Hey CC community,

I'm happy to have been accepted to TCNJ for biomedical engineering. However, I was disappointed because it seems I have not been accepted to Honors or received any sort of scholarship. I'm not sure if my stats weren't good enough or I just was unlucky or something. Here's a basic rundown and I'd like to hear your thoughts/advice. Also, I received 9k from University of Rochester, 14k from Northeastern, 18.5k from Drexel, and other awards from other schools as well. I really liked TCNJ and was hoping for some merit aid from them to make it more affordable.

Thanks for your time.

Seeing that its is May 1st, have you made your decision already and accepted another schools offer? I don’t see why you would be asking this question now as it is very very late in the decision making process for college.

Your stats are very good. I am surprised that you did not receive any merit. Did you apply late or something?

For last year’s admissions, we were told by ru admissions people that NJ public colleges have rigid formulas for calculating financial aid. They dont care about letters, volunteer work, etc, just numbers. They, as all schools, ignore classes like gym and use a formula to get a gpa. Then they look at sat/act.

My d managed to squeeze out $3000 merit scholarship with a 3.88 gpa, 2270 sat, and a 34 act.

@amipat01 I feel your pain I found out the hard way that many New Jersey students are not getting their due from NJ schools .In general, with such a high concentration of students here there isn’t enough money and the price of higher ed in NJ is tooooo high that’s why many qualified NJ kids leave the state. WAKE UP! polititians

Hi. Last Friday our son finished his freshman year at TCNJ and he could not have had a better experience. He was valedictorian of his hs class, 4.3 GPA and SATs of 2170. TCNJ only gave him 6K a year in merit; other schools (Mulenburg, Lehigh) offered over 20K in aide, but tuition at those schools is up around 50K.
Of course I wish he had received more financial aide. He is in the honors program and I truly feel he is getting an outstanding education at a beautiful campus for a reasonable price.
