Williams College

¡Muchas gracias!

Fabulous stats. You’re EC /Community Service is lacking though.

Dartmouth - Reach
Stanford - High Reach
Brown - Reach

The rest you have a great shot at.

Thanks, soccerstar18!

I realize my community service is lacking. Severely lacking.
However, my EC’s (especially Jazz/Madrigal Choir) expand a bit beyond what is mentioned above… I’m just afraid to post much else because of privacy concerns.

I should probably mention that my intended major is either atmospheric science or chemistry.

Other opinions?

Oh jeez, expected your major to be somewhere in the theatre arts area. From what you’ve posted there isn’t much science related EC’s or passion. But your real application might say otherwise. If you haven’t already, maybe get a research internship (If you’re a junior)

Hahahahahaha that made my day (I have not acted since the fifth grade play at my elementary school). As far as the arts go, I’m considering a double major or minor in studio art and/or music theory, but that’s about it. Yeah, I’m a senior, but I’m not really aware of many students in at my school engaging in research internships. Either there aren’t any opportunities around here or the guidance counselors are just keeping their mouths shut about it. My science-related ECs include the JETS engineering team and the math team. Last year I participated in chemistry club (only open to AP Chem students). Hopefully I managed to convey my passion for science through my college essays.

“White male (ugh)”

why “ugh”? i hear males are getting a “leg up” this year…

good chances, glahf

Amherst: Slight Reach
Bowdoin: Match
Brandeis: In w/ money
Brown: Slight Reach
Case Western: In w/ money
Cornell: High Match
Dartmouth: Slight Reach
Stanford: Reach
SUNY: In w/ Money
University of Connecticut (accepted!): In
University of Maryland: In
Williams: Slight Reach

Good list! One of the better ones I’ve seen on CC, it seems like you know what you are looking for. My only advice is that I might add Middlebury as a match if you have time, just in case the slight reaches don’t work out.

I’m sorry but slipper, your predictions don’t make sense. How could the OP have a slight reach at Amherst, yet a High Match at Cornell. Cornell is way harder to get into, then Amherst.

lol it is certainly not true that cornell is harder to get into than amherst. to quote the collegeboard:

Cornell:
Middle 50% of
First-Year Students Percent Who
Submitted Scores
SAT Critical Reading: 620 - 730 95%
SAT Math: 660 - 760 95%
SAT Writing: - -
ACT Composite: 28 - 32 20%
Percent applicants admitted: 25%

Amherst’ Middle 50% of
First-Year Students Percent Who
Submitted Scores
SAT Critical Reading: 670 - 770 83%
SAT Math: 660 - 760 83%
SAT Writing: 660 - 760 83%
ACT Composite: 28 - 33 17%
Percent applicants admitted: 19%

^Actually, Cornell has an admit rate of 25%, and Amherst has one of 19%.

:edit:

Posted at same time, lol.

=dddddddddd

But Cornell is also more self-selective…if you dont fit the mold (what they are looking for) i can assure you…your not getting in. Look at the ED thread

lol, no its not more self selective. cornell attracts many in state students applying to contract schools that would otherwise have no shot at the ivy league. also, being in the ivy league means that cornell receives many of those “ill apply for the hell of it and see if i get in” and many “oh its a low ivy so its probably easier to get in than the others”. amherst, being a liberal arts school that is probably not as well known, receives many more applications from kids that really like the atmosphere and really want that type of education.

i honestly think there’s something wrong with CC, or there’s something different between the rest of the world and the microcosm that is my high school. if you have those stats at my HS you have a GREAT chance to go to hyp and stanford, and most of those colleges that you listed. youre test scores and GPA are amazing, and your ECs and community service are acceptable

great chances yes, assured no

Amherst, I would argue, is much more self selective than Cornell. Its also reasonably more selective overall.

Cornell has more spots to accomodate more students (13k ugrads total)… of course its less selective b/c more people can go…

ixjunitxi, you can defend cornell all you want, probably because you go there or you were accepted ed. bottom line is, amherst is both more self-selective and selective in admissions as shown in its liberal arts colleges ranking. unfortunately, thats whats given cornell its reputation as the worst/easiest(in terms of getting in) ivy.

Cornell is a fantastic school and its very selective. Its also gotten more selective over the years, so the moniker of “least selective Ivy” might not even be fair anymore simply because while this is still true, “least selective Ivy” still means much more selective than “least selective Ivy” meant 30 years ago. I remember kids walking into Cornell with not exemplary stats even as recently as 10 years ago, now that’s not the case at all. That said, Cornell is less selective than Amherst and all the other Ivies.
