No, I REFUSE to apply to HYP...

many schools were like that 10 yrs ago…neways doesn’t really matter, i never said that cornell was more selective than Amherst

why are we arguing over a 6 percent differences? I just think of them both as super selective.

Lots of kids in my HS applied to Cornell annually, myself included, yet every year only 3-5 actually get in.

I’m done with 11/12 of my apps! Yay!

Cornell is actually my first choice, so it’s nice to see that it’s a “high match.” I wrote a really good (or at least I think so) essay about my lifelong passion for meteorology (to prove that I “fit the mold” that they’re looking for at CALS). I also included a sonnet. Hopefully it’ll get me in.

And yes, Amherst is most definitely more selective/harder to get into than Cornell. Regardless of the degree of “Self-Selection,” when you look at the mid-50% SAT ranges, the difference is obvious.

Thanks for the chances, everybody. Best of luck to you all!

Whoa. Soccerstar18 was right… for me, at least.

Here’s what my chances were:
Amherst: Slight Reach
Bowdoin: Match
Brandeis: In w/ money
Brown: Slight Reach
Case Western: In w/ money
Cornell: High Match
Dartmouth: Slight Reach
Stanford: Reach
SUNY: In w/ Money
University of Connecticut (accepted!): In
University of Maryland: In
Williams: Slight Reach

And here are the results:
Amherst: In (I was pleasantly surprised at this one)
Bowdoin: In
Brandeis: In ($15000/yr scholarship)
Brown: Rejected!
Case Western: In ($27500/yr scholarship but no financial aid… unaffordable)
Cornell: Waitlisted!
Dartmouth: In (will attend)
Stanford: Rejected!
SUNY: In (full scholarship)
University of Connecticut: In (full scholarship)
University of Maryland: In ($8000/yr scholarship but no financial aid… unaffordable)
Williams: Waitlisted!

Ironically enough, the schools I really, really wanted to get into (Brown, Cornell, Williams) all waitlisted or rejected me, and the schools that I applied to as afterthoughts (i.e. “hmmm, Dartmouth is pretty similar to Brown and Amherst is pretty similar to Williams”) accepted me. I chose Dartmouth over Amherst because Dartmouth offered a better financial aid package (and arguably stronger science programs). It was VERY hard to turn down UConn, and I agonized over the decision for a long time, but at this point I have no regrets.

I applied to Stanford solely for the sake of applying to Stanford. Do I regret REFUSING to apply to HYP? I’ll admit, maybe a little…

Awesome. Good luck at Dartmouth! lol btw you mean “slipper was right”

Lol…you mean “slipper was right”

Congratulations on Dartmouth, buffalowizard!

^ uhhhh, why did you bump up a 3 year old thread?

You have a better chance than most. All the ones you have marked as “merit aid?” I think you will get a good deal of money.
