No idea what to do after undergrad...

This is probably my first post requesting advice on these forums since I was applying to colleges a few years ago. Anyway, I have really specific academic goals I am pursuing and really enjoy. I am a junior at Cornell University double majoring in Economics and Government, and double minoring in International Relations and German Studies. However, I'm not sure what career options/interests are. I guess my academic interests together would be best described as international political economy.

When I tell people my academic interests, they usually think lawyer, but I honestly have little interest in law. Maybe something with international trade law or something might be interesting, but I have no idea what specific careers that leads to, or what other areas of law that involves economics/international relations there are. I've considered the Department of State (my uncle actually worked there his entire life and is currently an Ambassador). However, I would probably want a career with higher pay (not that wealth is everything and I'm sure I could probably live comfortably on a State Department salary).

I'm not really sure what my options are and where they would lead me. I suppose graduate school is an option, but I'm not sure for what. I would say not economics (at least full-out economics) since math isn't my strongest suit. I'm not sure what my graduate school/law school prospects would be like. My GPA is sort of low (currently a 3.35, trending upward though so maybe I'll graduate with a 3.4 or 3.5...freshmen year was rather low for me).

Any advice/suggestions would be appreciated. I plan on meeting with the Career Services at my school sometime in the near future (and when I can find the time), but I figured I'd turn here for now to get as many suggestions as possible. Thanks in advance!

Based on your academic interests, the Department of State or non-profit organizations like UN, World Bank, or WTO seem suitable for you. I’d suggest you have internships during vacation. You will never know what will suit you best unless you actually work. Cowokers, work environment as well as salary are quite different from career to career. If you want higher salary, go to business world like banking or consulting. Some non-profit organizations like UN offer higher salary, though.

Don’t forget the option of Teach for America, Americorps, or teaching English abroad - the go-to jobs for undecided graduates who want to mill about for awhile and figure things out.
