@merc81 Re #39, I agree with your point, but be aware that Middlebury’s overall acceptance rate this year was 16%. For girls it was even lower. For white girls from the Northeast it’s below 10%.
@urbanslaughter: I usually post figures from recently nationally published sources. (“At some colleges, your gender – man or woman – might give you an admissions edge,” The Washington Post, 3/14/16.) This allows for homogeneous comparisons.
Refinements beyond that point can be meaningful, of course, especially if they are credibly sourced.
The poster I was interacting with (my mistake to have done so) clearly had no interest in accurate information in any event. And multiple posters now seem to interpret asterisks as highlighting indicators. So, let’s say, in general, not my favorite thread in which to have participated.
