No idea where to start

Hello everyone! I was wondering if anyone could give me any advice or ideas on transferring colleges. I’m not currently taking any classes this fall semester. Is like to make a decision this spring but I have no idea where to start. Here are some of my stats

Hs gpa: 2.8 :frowning:
ACT: 27
College attended: Southern Illinois University Edwardsville
College gpa: 3.63
I was a member of the English language teachers society, the national society of collegiate scholars, deans list and English language and literature association. The past two summers and this school year I have worked at a local elementary school for an after school program.
I was an English/secondary education major at Southern Illinois University but I am not sure if that is what I want to do in college. I’m still trying to figure out what I want to study but I miss being in school and I would like to graduate at around the same time as my siblings/friends

I’m also not sure where exactly I want to/be able to transfer to with my stats. My gpa/extracurriculars/ACT are nothing special and I don’t know if I would be able to transfer to a “good” college. I would probably like to stay I. The Midwest but I’m open to other suggestions. I want to go to a college with a good academic reputation; one where I would be challenged academically. One of the reasons I’m not attending Southern Illinois anymore is because I didn’t feel challenged academically. I want to attend a school that is highly regarded academically and well known. I was looking at some big ten schools like UIUC, UMich, University of Iowa, Iowa State, And Northwestern. I am also open to other suggestions; not necessarily a school I’m the Midwest.
I’m an Illinois resident too if that helps.

What is your major? There are plenty of great schools in the midwest and the big ones have the whole range of majors but smaller ones may be more specialized but a good fit if you are interested in their offerings.

I was an English/secondary education major at my previous college, but I am thinking about changing it. I’m just not sure what I want to study. Do you think I have a chance at any of the schools I listed?

What is your budget?

@Madison85 I’m not sure yet. I was planning on applying first to see if I could get in to any of these schools and checking what financial aid, if any I am offered and checking scholarships first. I would say I don’t want to go over 30k a year, but I don’t have a concrete number yet. My parents are helping with college costs but I’m one of three kids in college right now and I don’t want to be a financial burden. My brother goes to UIUC and my sister goes to Marquette if they helps

Any out of state public universities won’t give much aid, if any. Usually the best scholarships go to incoming freshmen, not transfer students. Have you tried using the net price calculator to see if cost would be within your $30k budget?

@Madison85 the only one I listed that would probably be in that price range is UIUC. I know I probably won’t get much aid or scholarships from any of these schools but I’d like to see what my options are. I’m not sure if my stats would be enough to get me in anywhere I listed anyways, but I wanted to see if other people thought I had a shot before I spend my time doing transfer applications to a school I have no chance on getting in to
