Hey guys, I'm applying to be a Computer Science major at UC Berkeley. Will my chances lower if I don't complete IGETC by transfer? I will have about 5/7 of the 7-course breadth completed.

You will surely be rejected in this case

It says on <a href=“Welcome to ASSIST”>Welcome to ASSIST; that the 7-course breadth requirement can be finished prior to graduation at Berkeley.

Also, on this site, [Exploring Majors](<a href=“Welcome to ASSIST”>Welcome to ASSIST) it says IGETC is not recommended. Anyways, it’s not a requirement to transfer in the first place.

On here: http://coe.berkeley.edu/students/prospective-students/admissions/transfer-faq.html#courses , it says “students should not follow IGETC”

What do you guys think?

The general case is: not for engineering. Unless it’s SD then with IGETC you can TAG. For LA, IGETC doesn’t even automatically knock out all of the GEs like it does with L&S majors. If CS is under COE in Berkeley, then I wouldn’t bother.

Oh, it’s in the L&S. It’s not mandatory to complete it prior to transfer, but I’m just wondering how my chances would look if I had about a 3.85 by the end of this semester w/ about 4 or 5 of the 7 course breadth completed.

I was looking into this too for my boyfriend. He’s a computer science major that realized if he doesn’t get into Cal Poly SLO, he wont have many other options. I also read that it’s not mandatory, although I’m sure it’s preferred. Just go for it… you have a great GPA. Good luck!
