No internship or unrelated internship

So, I am a neuroscience major and I recently received notice of an internship opportunity for the summer in the field of Public Relations (at a pretty impressive company in LA). My parents are sort of against it and say that I should just continue doing my science research work because it would look better on my resume. My end result is wanting to continue on to DPT (Physical Therapy) school but I feel with this internship I may be able to learn to network more or us PR as a back-up plan if I don't get into the highly competitive DPT Programs.

Which would you suggest, doing the unrelated PR internship, or not doing one at all and just continue research work? If I do it will it look bad on my resume that I went out of my field?
