I applied EA on October 15, but I still have not been contacted by an alumni about scheduling an interview. I live in Massachusetts, only forty minutes away from Cambridge, so I wouldn't think that there is a lack of alum in this area...
Should I be worried? Don't most if not all EA applicants get interviews?

I’m sure you’re fine. I also hit submit on October 15th and was contacted on the 20th (had my interview the 26th). From what my interviewer told me, interviews are conducted by local Harvard Clubs. I live in a suburban offshoot of Los Angeles county (California), so my guess is that not many people applied SCEA to Harvard. Thus, my local club had the resources to contact me so quickly.

In contrast, if you’re in Massachusetts, perhaps there are more people applying (thus more people to cover)? Hard to say, but it seems likely that Massachusetts would have a high number of applicants (hence the delay in their contacting you). But keep checking your email (especially your spam folder, my interview’s original email landed there).

Good luck!

Take a deep breath and relax. I believe Harvard accepts more students from the great state of Massachusetts than from any other state. So, the Boston area Alumni Association has many Massachusetts students to interview. You will be interviewed – it may not happen until mid to late November, but that’s okay. The interview is probably the least important part of the applications process.

Thank you (:

Not absolutely true. H strives to have 100% of applicants interviewed but some do miss out due to demand vs. numbers of alum volunteers. *It’s possible *that you don’t ever get interviewed. But take heart – this doesn’t hurt your chances.

I received an email from my local alumnus. Will they contact me soon with information regarding date, time, and location of my interview?

It’s a person trying to make a connection. He/she will call you, perhaps offer several time slots and locations. You tell him/her what’s best for you if any, or suggest an alternative. It’s only a conversation with a volunteer

So all I do is wait for them to contact me?

Yes. Keep checking your email, including your junk folder. Most applicants who live in the US will be contacted for an interview. However, as T26E4 noted in post #2, not all applicants will be offered an interview. It depends on where you live, how many students from your area have applied to Harvard, and how many alumni have volunteered to be interviewers.

I applied October 31, and I am aware that it can take up to two weeks to receive confirmation from Harvard; however, it seems as most people on here–even those who applied October 31–have received confirmation. I have not received confirmation nor interview information. Should I be concerned?

If you haven’t heard anything by a week from this Monday (11/18), then I would call Admissions and find out what is up – otherwise, hang tight.

I called last Thursday to inquire about an alumni interview and they told me to email because they thought it was strange I hadn’t been contacted yet. And luckily for me, the next day, I received an email from an alumni and I have my interview this afternoon. Thanks for all your help! (:

Just wait and inquire like everyone else said

Son applied on 10/19 but no confirmation yet from Harvard but got his interview done last week. Very strange that they haven’t send any email or letter …

should he contact admission or not.

dadfor: your son got an interview b/c H processed his complete application. If it hadn’t, his contact info wouldn’t have been forwarded to the local alum.

I received notification of my alumnus for Harvard about a week ago. Should I call admissions by now, or hold still for a couple more days?

T26E4 - I understand that H has info and his application thats why they conduct the interview.
But he want the info so he can login and check the status of his application and to make sure nothing is missing like Writing supplements, Teacher Letters and Grades/ACT/SAT …

We haven’t received that correspondence yet…

There seem to be dozens and dozens of applicants who have issues with Ivy colleges’ log ins or materials intake checklists. Without a system to quickly update, I can see why so many families are concerned.

My first thought would be that the update system is faulty/slow but not the actual evaluative process. H (and others) have been processing +30K apps each year as well as handing their SCEA program w/o much hiccup whatsoever.

Know that H values all applications and it’s in their interest to have all the docs in-house. If anything is missing they will absolutely contact the applicant or the applicant’s school – regardless of the status on the portal.

We found the email now, was sent on 10/21 but went to SPAM, so everyone better check their spam or Junk mail. We logged in and everything looks good, they got everything school send them and the Test scores.

I got my Emails on the 8th… starting to worry…
