No Interview for ED?

I'm looking for information about interviews. My daughter applied Ed Dartmouth but has not heard from anyone regarding an interview. She recently heard that another student in her school (who applied RD) was called. What does this mean? Anyone have any advice? My daughter is now wondering why she didn't get the call--does this mean she is a definate no? Thanks for any help--we're really concerned.

it means that they couldnt find someone to interview her before the deadline in 2 days. They only have a limited number of alumni to do interviews.

Jennsmom,

It could just be that you live in an area where there are not many alumni interviewers . If they cannot find anyone to conduct the interview, it will not be held against you. Contact the admissions office and they willget in touch with the alumni director in your area.

I applied RD, not ED, but I think this should still apply. Basically, I applied to Dartmouth and never had an interview...I'm from central NJ so I doubt they would have had a problem finding me an interviewer. I'm not really sure why I didn't get scheduled for an interview and senior was so hectic and screwed up that I didn't even realize it until after decisions had been made. But ultimately it was a moot point as I was D accepted me anyway. So I don't think that it's something that is going to adversely affect your chances.

Thanks Xanatos, I find your post reassuring...I'm in northern NJ (applied ED) and never got contacted for an interview. I figure it's too late to do anything now. I didn't think there could be a lack of alumni in the area, especially because I know applicants from my school in other years had interviews, but I guess Dartmouth knows what it's doing. Interestingly, a friend at school didn't have an interview for another Ivy ED either. Perhaps they just don't care about the Jersey kids? Or there are just too many of us...

I did not get a interview also....

Lucky you.

My interviewer was the strangest nerdy basket case alum I have ever met from dartmouth. He talked for almost 10 minutes about his frat's milk and cookie party for the whole campus.

Haha! He's from Phi Tau! It's a coed fraternity. They have a delicious 'milque' and cookies party each term, it is very popular, but they do have a certain reputation for being a little eccentric. Don't let it taint your view of the school, no offense intended to anyone in Phi Tau, but I don't neccessarily think they are a the most representative picture of Dartmouth.

Acceptance rates/Alumni Interview statistics

• Alumni/ae and Admissions are on the same page as to the most appealing candidates. As the alumni evaluation rating goes up, so does that admit rate

• More than 7000 applicants were interviewed this year – up from 6400 last year

• Students who aren’t offered an interview are admitted at about the same rate (16%) as the overall pool

• Students who decline an interview are admitted at about the same rate as those who receive the lowest evaluation score (“0”/not recommended)

sheetmusic--there are probably just too many jersey kids. i know just in monmouth and ocean counties they had 8 kids applying ED. and you figure, with 21 counties in NJ that could be a lot of applicants.

mishy - yeah, that's the conclusion to which I've come. A friend applied early to another Ivy and didn't get called for an interview...he spoke to the admissions office and discovered that there were just too many applicants in our area to interview. I know of at least four other kids in my county (though not at my school) applying early - just those who I know personally. I guess the competition's going to be pretty stiff. I knew that already, but it doesn't bode well...

sucks to live in the most densely populated state in the nation, doesnt it?

Yeah. I love New Jersey...but it certainly isn't helping me get into college. At every college I visited the admissions office parking lot was full of NJ license plates and people who go to high schools in my area...hmph.

I hate New Jersey... I just moved here a year and a half ago- so many Jews and Korean overachievers (I'm Korean btw, which doesn't help me). Of all the states to move to, my parents of course, pick New Jersey. Why not Oklahoma??

Hey! I'm from New Jersey, and I'm a Jew and I take offense to that.

yeah...just because you're a minority doesn't mean you can speak negatively of other minority groups...

mmm....i love being the only asian in a 50 mile radius

Its not negative- you don't see a lot of under achievers at top schools, now do you? I was making fun of myself cause I'm lazy. If you happen to associate a negative connotation to the word, then that's you.

"New Jersey is full of Jews."

Yup, doesn't sound like there's anything wrong with that...
