I’m in an area with a decent-sized alumni association and a few kids have already been interviewed in my area/from my school. Any reason I haven’t been interviewed yet or gotten an email scheduling an interview? Should I just wait it out and be patient?
probably because the alum that got your name is busy, scatterbrained, or doesn’t check their email. When did you apply? If it was a long time ago, it wouldn’t hurt to shoot a call or email to the admissions office. But if it was at the deadline, wait a while. And remember that alum interviews matter extremely little.
I just interviewed someone on Monday. I emailed him this: “Nice meeting you as well. I was thinking about something you said about your fellow classmates – anxiously awaiting interviews. If you have a chance, can you relay to them this info? I know for a fact that this year, at least for Yale, that applicants have far outpaced our available interviewer slots and that students were assigned interviewers in the most random way possible – yet many still won’t get a call. That’s just how the numbers added up. It may allay some of their jitters. Take care,”
I agree with the scatterbrained interviewer. Remember that we are real people. For example, while my D was home for Christmas break, I spent a lot of my time with her. Didn’t check e-mails regularly. Had 4 interview requests from the Alumni Schools Committee (ASC) Chair. I am now scrambling to catch up - I did two over the weekend after she left.
There does appear to be a lot more applicants this year because the ASC is having a hard time finding interviewers even in areas that have a lot of alumni. Please remember that not having an interview will not hurt your chances. I never had on.
