I'm planning on applying ED to Tufts and was on the website today only to find that "However, due to a database implementation taking place this fall, interviews will not be available until the January 1 deadlines". It then recommended applying ED2 if you want an interview. I have never heard of a college holding interviews for every applicant pool except ED1, where it really should be most important. Will this hurt lots of ED applicants' chances because they don't receive the important interview?

Interviews are done by alumni and do not seem to be very important in the decision process. Neither of my DDs, nor many of their friends at Tufts, actually had interviews as part of the process.

I don’t know who told you that alumni interviews are an important part of the Tufts application. They are not.

I would say that for a lot of students alumni interviews are an important part of the application. However, I think they’re typically much more important for RD than ED applicants.

For RD applicants (who haven’t yet committed to attend Tufts if admitted, unlike ED) the alumni interview is a chance to have a one-on-one conversation with someone who actually went to Tufts in order to learn about the school and their experiences. As such, the interview may play as much or more of a role in that student’s decision to attend Tufts as it does in the admissions committee’s decision to admit him/her.
