ok so i'm in national honor society, band, done some other stuff, but i have no leadership positions in those whatsoever... i was going to be a section leader in band but my mom advised me against it because i have psoriasis and every time i get really stressed out it flares up badly, but how the heck am i supposed to explain that?? it'll just look like i'm whining or something... bleh idk i'm just really worried about not having anything to put under "leadership". how much does leadership really count towards your app? cuz band is so time consuming in itself and ive done alot more to help in there than many actual "leaders" there do...

Leadership is important to college admissions (although I personally disagree)... If you have like absolutely no leadership positions then you'll just have to pay the consequences when you get rejected from most of your schools...

I'd say you should be section leader in band regardless of what conditions you may have... Worth it in the end

Yes, that is correct. School campuses all over the country are completely filled by people who strong and proven leadership abilities. That is why many people choose to be Professors/Teachers at the college level - because it is so much fun lecturing to a bunch of tpe A personalities.

Ok, so by now, I hope you see that the above paragraph is full of sarcasm.

Remeber how colleges say they want diversity? they want it in all areas- including personality types. There are lots of ways to stand out on your college app, and leadership is one of them. There are others. Don't sweat it, and dont explain or apologize for it. Spend the time talking about strengths.

Of course, I just looked at the common app, just to be sure, and there is no place specifically for leadership positions. It is just part of the EC.

BTW, there are other ways to show leadership besides leading something. Have you ever done any teaching? camp couselor? stuff like that?
