For all of those who didn't get a likely letter, does that mean we have no chance of getting in? How many people get likely letters?

It seems like everyone and their mother got likely letters, but College Confidential has a heavily academically oriented (read: abnormal ;) ) population.

Most candidates do not get likely letters. The highest estimate that I've seen is that 40% of applicants get likely letters. Most do not. It's meant to tell (unofficially) the highest qualified people that "Hey, you're not officially in yet, but you're in unless you commit a felony or your grades drop D or below".

Just because you didn't get a likely letter doesn't mean you're not in. I never got one, never had an interview, and never visited the school, and yet I'm there now. Don't read too much into not getting one.

From what I've heard/read, 500 people get likely letters (including athletes)--that's about 25% of those accepted. Therefore, you may quite possiblity be in the 75% that don't! Don't stress out! The majority of those who get in don't get likely letters!

yeah i wouldn't worry about it. most of my friends here (at least the ones ive asked) didn't get one

My son also did not get a likely letter before he received his acceptance letter...so try not to worry too much about it.
