Originally, I was going to apply to 15 schools. I sent transcripts to 15 schools but later narrowed down my list. How do I contact a school to withdraw my application?

I don't think that it is necessary to contact them unless you have already paid the application fee and submitted the actual application.

If I were you, I would email or call their admissions office and just let them know. That way, you wouldn't get any funny emails or calls from them saying that you haven't turned stuff in.

Yeah I also decided at the last minute not to apply to a few schools.
I called them out of courtesy and also sent them a letter via snail mail.

Is it alright just to send them a letter?

I'd say so, might even be better because at this crazy time of year phone calls aren't allways given the best attention

I had sent in my transcripts/got my rec letters sent in to all the schools that I was going to apply to, but ended up getting in Early Decision to my top school. Even though I hadn't submitted any of my apps, I didn't want to get any more mail from them, so I just sent an email out to all of the schools, saying that I was withdrawing my app.

So what's the right lingo to use in the letter - I have only submitted teacher recs and school report - do I say I'm withdrawing or not planning on submitting an app, or what?

Withdrawing, or not submitting an app...either one would be good enough.

oh haha sorry for the confusion.
I called a few weeks ago.
But I sent letters out only a week ago, just in case.

But yeah, right now I recommend sending in letters.
