No longer in band?

I quit band about a week ago during freshman year. I don't really regret it, because although I know you go to football games and have all that fun, I'm not really interested in playing my instrument or practicing it. All I'm worried about is how colleges will look at my application, and consider me uncommitted, because I quit. And I was planning on joining 2-3 clubs I see really enjoying, but are those enough to get even a chance at entering a university like Brown? Also how much would it hurt me if I had 3 B's during my high school career?

If you quite in the beginning of freshman year thats really not breaking commitment…they dont even see that you were in Middle School band. And 3 B’s is not bad at all, though I don’t really think that you should already be estimating your grades, because the classes do get more difficult. Just shoot for all A’s and a couple B’s wont kill you.

Congrats on quitting band though. I was in Middle School band, and quitting at the beginning of HS was the best decision I ever made.

Why did you quit, im curious for why other people quit band, and why your glad of that decision? And if you quit band, are you involved in another activity?

If you really hate band and your instrument, then I say quitting was a great decision. I know it’s been said many, many times, but colleges want to see you do things that you have a passion for, and band was obviously not one of those things. Plus I quit band a month into freshman year (although I love my instrument and still play it) and it didn’t show up on my transcript/report card. So you should be fine, (unless you mention to colleges that you quit band…). But if you join a few clubs that you’re really passionate about and have leadership positions in, then that will be a huge plus to your app.
