First, I wanted to congratulate all of you who received an Early Write from Williams: an incredible feat! Congrats! :)

But then, for those like me who haven't received a love letter from the Purple Cow, what are our chances? It seems 200-300 Early Writes is quite a number for a school that is only about twice that number and if we take into account the Early Decision admits...not many spots left, is there?

Also, I tried looking for it but couldn't find it; is there an article out there like in the WilliamsRecord about this year's Early Writes? They usually provide percentages, if I remember... :o

Anyways, thanks!

I remember someone on an old Williams thread about early writes who did the math and concluded that there are still quite a few spots for non-early writes. Because the matriculation rate for Williams isn’t as high as it is for the Ivies, the number of early writes probably greatly exceeds the number of matriculates. This is speculation, of course, but I hope it gives you comfort. In the end, who knows? Good luck!

Based upon last year’s stats, Williams yield for RD applicants was 31%. If applicants admitted ED and from the wait list are backed out of the admission numbers, 986 applicants were admitted to fill the remaining 306 seats in the 2013 class.

Last year 231 were admitted ED. This year 212 were admitted ED (according to NYTimes). The wait list was not much of a factor last year with 9 of 12 admitees enrolling.

I have no idea how many early write letters Williams sends out. Even if 250 are sent out then 3 times that number can expect to be admitted later this month.

Numbers are from the link below sections C1, C2, and C21.

Thank you so much! Now, I kind of want to know how many internationals received Early Writes so I can gauge the “availability percentage” for the international spots…especially now they are doing quasi-need-aware admissions.

It’s days like these when I wish the college application process was a fast process where as soon as we click “submit application,” it will tell you :)
