No Major GPA by the time of application

I will have taken no major prereqs for polisci by Nov. 1. I started CCC this summer and have only taken/enrolled in GE/IGETC requirements by the end of fall. All my major prereqs will be taken in the spring. By spring, I will have finished all prereqs for UCB, all but one for UCLA (CCC is missing an equivalent course), and IGETC. I can try to switch some GE classes with prereqs, but classes are extremely hard to get into at my college.

How does not having a major GPA by end of fall affect my chances?

So you’re not taking any prerequisites in the Fall?

There is a transfer academic update (TAU) due in January - with that, you report your Fall grades. They factor the grades reported via the TAU into your GPA.

It’s absolutely imperative to take some (at least two) major reqs in the Fall. GEs can wait.

Actually, I just realized I will be taking one of UCB’s major prereq. It’s not even a polisci class, though; it’s a stats class.

I am attempting to switch out of classes I am enrolled in for the fall for waitlist spots in polisci classes. Wish me luck! :frowning: I came into this extremely unprepared lol.

Well assist.org says UCLA requires at least 3 prep courses by the end of spring for polisci. You have one already. You can get two more right now by applying to Grossmont college in San Diego. (I live here) The two courses:

Politics & Political Analysis - POLI 120
Intro to US Govt. & Politics - POLI 121

Both of these classes are 100% online. At least 20 spots each in 2 different sections for each class. You never need to step foot on campus either and they articulate according to assist.org. This way you can have the minimum requirement already on record for the admission counselors to look at. That is, if you don’t wanna risk the waitlist at your current CC

First day of school is on Monday the 22nd. It takes about 2-3 days max from application to enrollment. Pay your health fee online and you’re all set. Don’t forget to do bog waiver as well.

Also, I doubt they will fill up. Priority registration was on May 25. Open enrollment started July 7th!!

Forgot the add, 100% means the Final Exam as well.

Good Luck!

Hmm… I suppose that’s a possibility. I’m wondering if online classes are somehow seen as less… valid? For some reason, I had always thought online courses were looked down upon. Maybe that notion is unfounded though! Thanks though. I appreciate your advice!

I see where you can get that notion. “PHD ONLINE” ahahaha :))
I’ve checked my CC transcripts and they appear as normal classes though. But of course, in my case both colleges were in the same city…

Took about 3 online GEs ( intro poli sci., intro socio., some English class) and they showed up as regular classes on UCLA DARS. Most people assume it’s less work. Take online classes when you can, frees up SO MUCH traveling time.

Update: I was able to get into two poli sci classes! I was really worried I wouldn’t get them. I dodged a bullet there.
