No major was listed?

I was all thrilled for hours about being accepted to UCSD, but then I noticed it didn't mention my major. All it said was:

"On behalf of the faculty, staff, and students of the University of California, San Diego – congratulations on your admission to Revelle College!"

And nothing for my major. What does this mean? I applied biomed engineering. Some people have been saying since my major is impacted they let me in undeclared, will that affect what major I go for later on? I really want to study biomed engineering. :/

Did you click on the “Continue to the Admission Status Page”, then the “Review my admissions offer”? That is where I found it said “Undeclared”.

It is my understanding from the Jacobs website, that the only way to get into the impacted Bioengineering major is as a freshman or a transfer student. Once you’ve been accepted in another major (even undeclared), you can’t transfer into bioe, only to a un-impacted major.

I also saw that acceptance to Jacobs involves two steps. First is acceptance to the UCSD and to the college, which we both have. The second is a review by Jacobs for admission into the impacted major. Did you list a secondary non-impacted major? I did not. So, either I wasn’t accepted into bioe, or Jacobs hasn’t made their decision yet. That’s what I would like to know.

But, I could have read that wrong.

Maybe someone can clear that up for both of us.

Oh dear! This is really bad news. :frowning: It’s my dream to go to UCSD but I wouldn’t want to major in anything else.

I’m in the same boat.

I have acceptance in biomed eng at UCI. I’m a few miles from UCSD. I prefer to stay local. No room and board.

I’m in the exact same situation, UCSD is close to home. And I was accepted biomed:premed at UCI, but I really wanted UCSD…I was so happy and now I’m just plain worried. :/

Smiley face was supposed to be a P.

“Starting in fall 2010, the Bioengineering: Premedical major and the Pre-Bioengineering: Premedical premajor will no longer be available to entering freshman and transfer students.”

I’m not sure if this is what you guys are referring to, if you mean BioE: Pre-Med when you say Biomedical Engineering… this would be why. Its not ABET-accredited, so its getting the boot.

Not sure I understand you MiqueMaus.

Read this page boseph:
[UCSD Jacobs School of Engineering](http://www.jacobsschool.ucsd.edu/undergrad/undergrad_academic/academic_majors/impacted.shtml)

I’m actually a bit less worried now that someone else is in the same position.

The review process just may take a bit longer for the impacted majors. Don’t worry too much yet.

Too late, I’m worried anyway. I never want to have to transfer schools if I can’t get the major I want after a while there. :(

@boseph & figuresk8ting: since you’re both local, were you planning to live on or off campus? do you know yet?

(sorry, off topic)

MiqueMaus ~ I was going to go for bioe: pre-med until I saw it was closed. I applied as a “bioengineering” major at UCSD (biomedical engineering at UCI).

HISbeloved ~ I’ll be living off campus with family. No financial aid, so it’s cheaper

@HISbeloved- not sure yet.

Thanks guys, we were thinking the same, but my S really wants to experience the “college life,” so we’re thinking our best bet is for him to live on campus for at least the first year. He did get some financial-aid, but not sure if it’ll be enough to cover housing…

figuresk8ting ~ yeah, I saw that webpage right after I saw I was “undeclared”.

Also saw this on their website:

"Q) When will I be notified if I have been accepted?

A) The UC San Diego Office of Admissions and Relations with Schools generally sends their decision letters in early to mid-March. The Jacobs School sends letters via postal mail approximately one week after the UC San Diego admissions letter to let you know if you have been admitted to your selected major. The Jacobs School welcome letter usually includes an invitation to UC San Diego Admit Day where you and your family learn more about the Jacobs School, tour your engineering department, and meet current students, departmental faculty, and staff members. "

Don’t know what to make of that.

Wow, that makes is slightly more confusing, I didn’t see that.
Well I guess it’s a waiting game then? I really hope I’m admitted… it’s hard enough deciding what to do with your life, I don’t need people to tell me there’s no room once I’ve finally figured it out. xD

Yeah, it’s too confusing.

I may have to go to a community college after all. What a waste of hard work and ELC status.

Did you put an alternate major on your application or just list bioengineering like I did?

I put an alternate major but it was also impacted (biology).
And don’t give up yet! It’s looking good, we’ve both been accepted! If I don’t go to UCSD I’ll probably go to Cal (if accepted) or Irvine.

I just did a bit more research, it looks as if we should wait a week or two for the engineering school to send out acceptances. Gosh do I hate waiting by now. This college process is grueling. -_-

Wait it said I was accepted for bioengineering (biotechnology) on mine.
