Is this considered a joke major or what? I was actually planning to major in management before I flipped through pages of threads in this forum to find (non-existent) opinions on it.

By now, you’ve probably realize that making big money fast is the mantra here. Alas, one cannot make $200K right after graduation in management, so it generates little interest.

Joke ass major.

What are your career goals Recharge?

What is a management major anyway? What are you learning to do? What are you learning about? Management is needed in every aspect of life. We manage our home, diet, finances, etc. We can have a job in management. We could be managers at a retail store, bank, college, hospital or non-profit.

Management is a useless name as a major. It might as well say Life Major.

I agree with cbreeze’s post. Management is good. Just double it with something else.

Not everyone can be or should be Finance, Accounting, Management Science, or Marketing majors.

Human Resources is a very important function for an organization, so don’t count it out.

But I think management is more like a social science like psychology, sociology, etc.
It really depends on your career goals though.

Is seems that if management is truly a “joke ass” degree, there are a disproportionate number of MBA programs out there. Lot’s of debate about who’s is better too. Maybe morrismm is right and it could fare better if it were to undergo a name change. There is a world of difference between managing one’s diet and managing a hospital, a business, or even the produce section of Wal-Mart. Maybe if the degree name included a specialty- operations, human resources, technical management…
