okay so i'm going to ctops this week and i am going to be pre med. But i didnt know that i needed to take the math sat ii to get into chem 101 until it was too late. so i wanted to know if i could at least sign up for a math class without taking the sat ii. i took pre cal honors this year and i heard that math 233 is mostly geared to those who already took calc. so is it a good idea to take math 130 or just try to go for math 233 and can i even sign up for these classes without taking the sat ii?

I was in the same situation last year. You cannot take a math course without first being placed out of MATH 110. In order to place out, you need a sufficient score on the AP or IB exam or the SAT II. However, I discovered that you can’t actually take MATH 110 without haven taken the SAT II and gotten a low score. If all of this sounds confusing, you can take a look at this:

You are not going to be able to understand anything in Math 233. That’s multivariable calculus. Heck, I didn’t understand some of the stuff in there and I came in with credit for Math 231 and 232. Of course, I’m not really a math person, despite taking the BC Calc exam in high school. Anyway…you’re going to have to take the SAT II math II at some point, unfortunately. What you could do so you don’t fall behind in premed is take Bio this semester if it doesn’t require Math 110. Most premeds don’t take their first bio course until Spring freshman year, so while you’d be behind in the chem sequence, you’d be ahead on the bio sequence…Good luck!
