No Math Senior Year: Kiss of Death for College Admission?

So I'm a junior and I'm taking Honors Pre-Calculus this year, and I absolutely hate math. I really don't want to take Calculus next year, but if it really matters to college then I guess I can just sweat it out and take it.

So what do you think? Is it really that important to take? I probably won't be applying to any really selective schools (maybe one just for the heck of it) but my math teachers are making it seem like I'm making a huge mistake. Thanks for the help!

in short YES

in long... depends on what schools you're applying to

Most state schools only require 3 years of math

if your planning on majoring in the sciences/engineering fields...this definetly will be a problem for any school you're applying too...

It hurts if you plan on majoring in something that is math oriented or requires a really strong foundation in mathematics. Engineering, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or any other science related applicants are expected to take either a four year advance math course (AP Calculus AB, BC) or can opt to take an alternative such as Discrete Mathematics or even AP Statistics.

But if you were going to major in History, Legal Studies, Psychology, or English, then it would not be a glaring issue and has no bearing on you being admitted or not.
