No Merit Awards?

I was just accepted into BU’s College of Engineering, and I was a little surprised not seeing any Merit Award link on the right side of the page. Granted, I am an international student living in the states, so I am eligible only for the Trustee (which I stupidly didn’t do), University, and Engineering Scholarships, but I thought my chances were pretty good for the latter two. Do you know if there’s pretty much no chance of me getting a merit award if I didn’t hear with the admissions decision, or if they might tell me later on?

My academics:

Decision: Accepted

WHY YOU THOUGHT YOU WERE ACCEPTED/REJECTED/WAITLISTED:

OTHER THOUGHTS: So is this it for me? If it wasn’t there now, am I not getting any merit awards?

:(

i personally forgot to apply for the CSS PROFILE; that's why i didn't receive any scholarships.. probably no merit awards either.
and BU is ridiculously expensive.. so i don't know.. is it too late to submit the CSS PROFILE?

:\ I'm not sure. All I know is that I wasn't eligible for need-based awards since I'm not a citizen the US, nor do I have a greencard, so all I could get was a merit award. Does anybody know if a merit decision just MIGHT come after the admission decision? If I'm lucky XP

I don't understand BU, because I got almost full tuition, but none of it seems to be merit based. It's all grants, not scholarships. I knew I was poor, but I didn't know I was that poor.

Call them for clarification? That's what they're there for, right?

Yeah, I got into the CAS as well, but I didn't get any merit money at all. My stats were higher than the given average for all of the scholarships, but I got nothing, zero, zilch. I did receive a few thousand a year in loans, though, although I was not expecting any financial aid. My parents make plenty of money and have been saving up for my college for the past 18 years. My dad was really, really surprised that I would qualify for loans...Anyway, I was hoping that maybe BU didn't post ALL of the merit aid decisions, yet...because I would definitely have expected it. I got a half-tuition scholarship to a higher ranked school, and another half-tuition scholarship to Pitt, which is ranked the same as BU. Any insight? I feel like I should call them and ask, but I don't want to seem probing or full of myself. :/

By the way, I'm an American citizen and we sent in all of the required documents on time.

Yeah, same here, I was expecting NO financial aid (although I certainly need it) and I got $15900. I was rejected from the Trustee Scholarship thing, but it didn't say anything beyond that. I'm kinda hoping I get some merit money, but who knows?

I really hope you get some, though! That really sucks that you're automatically ineligible for financial aid.

Yep, same here. D was accepted...similar stats to ninja's, Sat 2 790 Math II, 800 Physics, class rank 1/566, 4.0 uw gpa, >5.0 weighted. Natl Merit Finalist (w/ BU listed as #1 school, as it offered the most NM money of any of her schools).....nothing offered, except $3500 loan. Oh well, it makes her decision MUCH easier to make, and it's Boston's loss, as far as this mom is concerned!!! Good luck everybody/adios to the Boston U thread! :)

...oh, and hopeful0607, take the money and be happy :)

Astrophysics, exactly the same! Somewhere over 3K in loans, and no merit. Rejected from Trustees and no further information, though I would have expected some kind of merit aid, being above the average in all of the stats for their awards.

Are the merit award decisions somehow linked to financial need?

Exactly the same for me. Someone want to call tomorrow?

i was kinda surprised i didn't get any merit awards. i applied to com, and i think i had pretty good stats ..4.32 w gpa, 2260 sat's

they gave me a big grant though, i guess that made up for it

American and Syracuse sent the merit awards with the accpetance packet... I'd wait and see if they come then.

i'm not trying to be arrogant when i say this, but my stats were good enough to get me a likely letter from harvard and i got no merit awards from bu on the online decision page. i think it's safe to assume they're coming in the mail

Our oldest son is a sophomore in American Unviersity's honors program where a merit scholarship covers a third of the cost. AU appears to be more generous with its merit scholarships since our youngest was just accepted to BU's honors program with no scholarship. Yet he should have qualified for some money based on BU's merit criteria on its website. He received a partial scholarship from the University of Rochester and we'll need to see what other schools offer as well. Good luck to all.

My stats were well above the averages for the half-tuition University Scholarships and Engineering Scholarships, but I only got the $10,000 Deans' Scholarship. I'm wondering if they took into account anything other than academic record, because that $6000ish could have made a huge difference...

This is all very interesting. My S is a second year student (junior standing) and he and two of his best friends have the half-tuition scholarship. My S applied ED and priority consideration for merit money is given to ED applicants. I wonder if having ED1 and ED2 options this year watered down the merit money for RD applicants.
