No money -> No way to get into need-aware univ?

I'm an international student.
I have no money at all.
Are there any possibilities to get into need-aware universities? 0%?
Let's say I have an average academic standard like the other applicants. (not extraordinary)

gsbkv, your issue is NOT getting into the universities. Need award universities do accept students who don’t have money. BUT that does not mean that you will be able to attend. You will need to demonstrate that you have the money in hand to fund a full year of study in the United States in order to get a Visa to study here. This can include confirmed loans AND confirmed financial aid from the schools. If you don’t receive sufficient aid, you will have do show that you have the money from another source to get that Visa.

Thanks for your reply thumper1.
I can borrow money to get the visa. But as soon as I got the visa, I have to return it. I’ve heard that many international students do this way. Anyway, If it is possible to get into need-aware universities with no money at all, should I have extraordinary academic standard?

gsbkv10…ahem…if you give the money back that is borrowed HOW will you pay for your college costs here? That isn’t the best plan I’ve heard of.

Need aware schools will consider your financial need when they review your application for admission. There really isn’t any way to predict YOUR chances of getting accepted as a lot depends on the application pool for THAT year. However, you say your stats are “average” which doesn’t exactly put you at the top of the applicant pool at these schools anyway. That being the case, if you add your inability to pay AND your “average” stats together, you need to ask yourself…will I be accepted to these schools?

*I can borrow money to get the visa. But as soon as I got the visa, I have to return it. I’ve heard that many international students do this way. *

I doubt that this is true because how would they then pay their tuition? I imagine that what happens sometimes is that families borrow half of the money from relatives, then return it, then earn the second half of the money before the second semester starts.

However, it won’t work to borrow ALL the money and then return ALL the money. You wouldn’t have the money to pay your tuition when it’s due in July/August.

Usually, a family has to contribute SOMETHING even if the family is low income. Often the costs of international travel and some other costs. Many full-need schools do not cover all costs.

That said, if you’re looking to get accepted to a “need aware” school that gives int’ls aid, then having “average” stats is not going to get you accepted. Since so few int’ls get accepted and are given big financial aid, those few tend to have spectacular stats. Something has to distinguish them from the thousands of other int’l applicants.

Tuition payments are due prior to the start of the semester. If you have no money, you won’t be able to start classes.

You will have an expensive visit to the United States if you are not awarded enough financial aid.

Being accepted isn’t the issue - being awarded enough financial aid is.
