No more Honors Program at BC?

I was just reading this article: http://bcheights.com/2017/11/05/task-force-may-assembled-evaluate-future-csom-honors/ and it stated that there’s no longer an Honors program in the College of Arts and Sciences:

“Last month, Morrissey College of Arts and Sciences announced that it would be ending its Honors Program with the Class of 2021.”

It also stated that the BC is looking into getting rid of the Honors Programs for the other colleges. What does this mean for the classes after 2021? What will happen to the students who would have qualified for the Honors Program and their curriculum?

Like the article says, the school is now so selective that an honors program isn’t needed. The variation in student strength is too small. This has probably been true for a number of years.

I’d be interested to know the old criteria for CSOM honors. If 90% of current students would have qualified under the old criteria, perhaps that would shed a little light on the mystery of stats for admission to CSOM.

Yes, there is no more honors program in MCAS. In addition, the university has also removed the CSOM and LSOE honors programs. This should not deter someone from the school. The fact of the matter is that BC has grown so much in academic rigor, recognition, and financial endowment that the need for a different subset of students to promote these aspects is no longer necessary.

It should also be mentioned that each academic department still offers honors for the student within that major, similar to many other schools.
