We use our ID and money linked to our bills to pay...$2 a load, but now that i'm in an apartment i have free laundry :) and its an on-campus apartment too!

i dont know why people are so big on the e-mail thing, if it says "30 minutes" on the machine, why not check your time and come back in 30 minutes?? it's not rocket science, folks.

At Rice, the laundry fee is built into room and board. I'm pretty sure that the technology available in the laundry room depends on the discretion of the residential college, but none of them have anything terribly fancy. At least I don't have to deal with quarters.

so what happens when they forget to check their e-mail and someone else strolls into the laundry room with a full load and takes the first person's laundry out and puts theirs in? it happens, trust me.

if they sent a text message, sure, i'd understand that. you can't miss it (unless your phone is on silent i guess). i never had laundry problems, and all i did was see that it was 7:05 and if the machine said 30 minutes, to be back around 7:35.

to incoming freshman...don't think that you can put your clothes in, leave for class or go to the mall for an hour or two, and expect your clothes to still be in the washer/dryer or neatly folded for your convenience. If the machines are full but 2 are done and someone's waiting, they won't wait all night for you.

I don't see why you're so against the idea, Cards. Sure, it may not be foolproof, but I know I certainly check my e-mail more than I would like to admit.

yeah, no one will wait for you to come back before they'll just take the machine here either. I've seen clothes sit all day, waiting for their owner to come back. Some people (like me) will give 5 or 10 minutes before they'll move someone's clothes to get a machine, but other people will move your stuff if you aren't there the very second the machine stops. I hate doing laundry in college :(

It is common sense... I guess it is just the convenience of getting an email or text message. We have the eSuds program at our school. It is a great added feature. I can't tell you how many times I will put a load in, start doing something else and completely lose track of time. Knowing that I will receive a text message letting me know when my laundry is done makes one less thing I have to think about!

I don't find getting an email very convenient.. By the time it emails you and you get to the laundry room during a busy time, your clothes would already be taken out :P

We have laundry view so you can track it online and be down in the room the second the machine is off. It's the courteous thing to do. It's 75 cents a load and you can pay on your card... but some machines randomly don't work with a card.

it's the eSuds laundry program... it actually looks pretty cool. and i did a little bit of research and the big difference is laundryview doesn't notify you when your laundry is done. which i think is pretty cool... i always have my phone on me to receive a text message...
