I have never posted before and I didn’t think this would happen to me. I split my noms because I applied to both USNA and USAFA. I received the USNA nom but not the USAFA nomination from my Senators. I am triple “Q’d” for Navy. It seems the Air Force is interested in me as well but I do not have LOA’s for either. Air Force is having me depth perception tested again to potentially pilot qualify me (per DODMERB) and my ALO has recommended me for appt and feels like I am a very strong candidate. I am wondering though if this is the end of the line as far as my USAFA aspirations? Is anyone aware of a candidate not getting a nom from one of their sources and than still receiving an appointment? Are there “other” sources of nominations that the academy can provide in this kind of situation if the candidate is desirable?

i'm not sure i understand...you applied to both senators and got navy from one?

did you apply for your congressman's?

if you didn't, it's too late this year.

if you did and didn't get the nomination, you might be able to go to the prep school next year should you decide to go af rather than accept your usna appt.

you cannot receive an appointment without a nomination.

Received USNA from my Representative. I am lucky to have that. Very competitive in our state this year. Senatorial noms went to those with LOA's or blue chips (athletes). It is a numbers game. I had to split my nominations and simply came up short. It seems based on what I have read on this forum, it is not an uncommon issue in the more competitive areas. My ALO did infer "there are other ways" to get noms and not to focus on it--pretty much the same thing the admissions rep said. We'll see......

IF the academy really wants you - they may be some options.

One option is an AOG scholarship to prep school. Sometimes prep school is offered to good candidates who can't gain admission for lack of a nomination. You go for a year and reapply, if you go to a military prep school like MMI or NMMI then you will qualify for an ROTC nomination and your chance of an MOC nom will increase.

In the US Code is a clause that allows the Supe to nominate 50 candidates each year. Occassionally nominations are "found" this way.

IF you really want the USAFA then keep in touch with your ALO. Trust this person, he won't lead you astray. You may not get there this year but there is an excellent chance you will get there.
Good Luck!

There are other ways to get nominations; but you probably already know what they are if you were eligible. E.g. Presidential; VP; ROTC; etc... There's also ways if you're a highly desirable athlete. But the bottom line is; you need a nomination. There's nothing wrong with contacting your senators/rep and explain your situation and see if they have one of their 10 slots still available. I.e. They could have given a nom to someone who also had another nom like presidential, and therefor won't need the MOC. Can't hurt to ask.
