No notebook for 15 days?

I was planning to get a new notebook for college. My current one weighs about 8 pounds and is ****e. So would it be possible for me to go 15 days without a notebook? If yes, I intend to wait for the new MacBook Pro coming out in mid-September...

a computer (notebook or desktop) is not necessary for college. it is definitely possible to got 15 days (since you don't actually need one). also, MBPs are overpriced and you'd be an idiot to get one

Come on, the OP deserves better advice than that. He didn't ask your opinion on MBPs and no one did. Let alone calling him and all the rest of the people who own them idiots.

In response to the original question, yes you can definitely got that long without a computer. In the mean time, if you live in the dorms, you can go to Rescomp and use the computers there. There is internet access, printing, scanning, and a bunch of other things you might need there. Also, there are plenty of libraries and computer centers around campus that allow you to use their computers and internet.

Thanks commonsense. What about taking notes in class?

Depends on what kind of class. Generally, for science and math classes, paper and pen(cil) work better because it's easier to write formulae or draw figures, but for text-heavy lectures, like...pretty much anything non-science, you could use a laptop. It depends on what works better for you. I type much faster than I can write, so I like it more and it's easier for me to organize things (OneNote is one of the very few Microsoft products that I actually like).

how many students use laptops to take notes? Do all profs allow the use of the computer, it seems that it could be distracting to other students.

No professor that I've ever had banned the use of laptops in class, but some of them did tell us to please use them only for note-taking purposes while in lecture, as doing other things (playing games, IM, etc) could be distracting to others.

Laptops for notes are becoming more and more prevalent. For text-heavy classes, I'd estimate at least half of students use laptops. And they're especially becoming popular in science and math classes because of the tablet PC.

This semester, I'm taking:
Scandinavian R5A or German R5A
Math 1A
CS 61A
L&S C10

Is ResComp free for students? Does each Unit have its ownResComp?

You are my Solskjaer,
My Ole Solskjaer,
You make me happy,
When skies are grey,
Oh Alan Shearer,
Was f*****g dearer,
So please don't take,
My Solskjaer away...

new mbp aint comin anytime soon ;)

September 15th.

HypnosX: :D

Where did your hear Sep 15th from? All I've heard is anywhere from mid to late September.

Rumors about that they'll launch the new line the day the Back-to-school promotion ends, i.e. the 15th.
