I have not received word as of yet and I was named a finalist. Does this mean that I did not obtain the award? I also have not labeled a college as my first choice yet, could that have prevented me from being considered? I called national merit and they said the process was still ongoing. Any input would be appreciated.

I’d check with your guidance counselor at your HS. Usually notifications are sent out by Feb/Mar, well before now. See if there’s any particular hold up on yours that you can address.

ivyhopeful…NMSC’s schedule shows that they expected to mail out offers for the $2500 scholarships on Mar 24th, so I would expect you would’ve heard by now had they offered you one. Notifications of NMSC “official” college sponsored scholarships (most of these are in the $1K-2K per year range) are supposed to be mailed out starting Apr 27th. D1 has already been notified by her college (U of Minnesota) that she’ll be receiving the scholarship, so all we’re waiting on is the official notification from NMSC. If you were hoping to get a $2500 award it’s possible that that ship has sailed. If you’ve got a college that you can name as first choice that awards NMF money I’d recommend doing so as there may still be a chance to receive some college sponsored money. If you do, I’d also recommend notifiying the college FA office that you’ve named them as I believe they need to notify NMSC they’ll be offering the award to you. You might save a little time by giving them a heads-up instead of waiting for NMSC to tell them you’ve made a selection. Good Luck!!

have all the corporate-sponsored scholarships been sent out already? i applied for a “special scholarship” through NMSC for my dad’s company, but im not a NMSC finalist. does anyone know if i should still hold out some hope?

call NMSC directly and ask them. I know special scholarships take longer to give out in some cases as they may have to wait for acceptances from the NMSC scholarship before they make a decision on the special scholarship. Some companies have a few special scholarships.
