when you sign up for a course, do you complete that course after one term? for example, would it take your fall, winter, and spring terms to complete foreign languages 1, 2, and 3?

also, i heard 35 courses are required for graduation. you are required to study for 12 terms, so one would have to take a minimum of around 3 courses per term . If that is correct, then how many courses per term does the average student take?

thanks for all responses

3 courses per term is the norm.

Most students start their freshman year with a few course credits from AP, IB and / or entrance tests. I believe the requirement about 35 courses for graduation is not an issue for most students. As for the workload, most students feel 3 courses are about manageable if not all of the courses include labs.

Many students take 2 courses in sophomore summer term to spend good time doing non-academic activities with their classmates.

You will need to be careful if you want to take 4 courses in a term. The workload will be extremely heavy. Dartmouth students are granted for taking 4 courses in 3 terms without paying extra tuition fees.
