No one here knows your chances

Repeat: No one here knows your chances. Do not listen to either the downers or the cheerleaders. They do not know. Just do your best with the applications and wait for March 10.

I’m pretty sure everyone knows that…if people didn’t still want to post this part of the forum wouldn’t exist.

Also there are countless posts like: I want to go to Exeter or Andover: I need full FA and I got a 70% on my SSAT, what are my chances??? Does not require an admissions officer to tell the person, not very good you ought to broaden your search…

They are mostly 13-year-olds…and I was just being a grouchy middle-aged mama.

I get where you’re coming from, and I agree with what you’re saying, but there are a few things that people post where you just kind of go 8-X . In that case, better to temper expectations, no?

@twinsmama, I’m with you, thats why I can’t help myself from reply to those “I got a 65 will I get into Andover with a full ride???” posts. Generally followed up by 7 13 year olds saying “don’t worry the schools will overlook SSAT scores….”

Probably both of us would be better served ignoring this altogether…

One of the reasons I will not do a “Chance Me” thread for myself, since it is POINTLESS. What goes inside the admissions office is completely out of the hands of CC posters.

It’s not like being chanced on this website will increase your actual chances anyway…

Yes, but the thought process behind it isn’t whether or not it will increase chances, but rather the relief in putting your information out there and unload that burden. I was in this boat once, too.

Hmm, maybe I’ll do one in the future. @mrnephew

Even an AO of a related school should hardly know an individual chance by just reading a post…

It’s really just to clear the air and help relieve some anxiety if you ask me…

you know I had a discussion with the head of my kids school a couple of weeks ago. they send 20 kids a year to boarding school and he told me it varies from year to year. He gets a different read form say Deerfield each year about how flexible they will be or how many kids they will take from our school. Theres a kid this year who seems likely to be getting into a popular top tier school and he was surprised, doesn’t think last year this girl would have made the cut at that particular school.
